The Essential Foodie’s Guide To Bangkok – 6 Must Try Foods!

If food is one of your main reasons to travel, then this guide is for you. Thailand’s capital city of Bangkok is obviously one of the best places in the world to eat Thai food. The streets are lined with restaurants and street food vendors, making a decision on what to eat seem overwhelming.

So, what are the must try dishes while in Bangkok…?

Sticky Rice and Mango (Khao Niao Mamuang)

This is a common dessert in Thailand. If you are in Bangkok during mango season (March – July) you are sure to see many vendors selling this dish. The mangos in Thailand are deliciously sweet and the addition of the rice offers a good balance to the dish. This may seem like an unusual dessert for a western pallet, but trust us on this one, it is delicious!!!

Thai Fried Noodles (Pad Thai)

Pad Thai is probably one of the most famous Thai dishes. It is a street food dish that consists of stir-fried rice noodles with beansprouts, egg, shallots, prawns, tofu, peanuts and tamarind sauce. If you went to Bangkok and didn’t try Pad Thai, did you really go to Bangkok…?

Tom Yum Goong Noodles

Tom Yum is the national soup of Thailand. The soup is sour and spicy in taste. The intense flavour of the chilli, lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves really coming through. The soup is served over noodles and was one of our favourite dishes while in Bangkok.

Grilled Pork (Moo Ping)

You will see street vendors selling grilled pork everywhere in Bangkok. Each piece of pork is marinated in soy sauce and grilled on skewers over charcoal. This dish is usually served with sticky rice. Moo Ping is sweet in flavour and tender in texture.

Fried Chicken (Gai Tod)

Thai fried chicken is delicious! Marinaded in a sauce (each vendor has their own recipe). The chicken is then dipped in batter and deep fried. Fried chicken is a common street food in Bangkok and one not to miss!

Thai Ice Tea (Cha Yen)

Strong tea mixed with condensed milk and topped off with cream. If you have a sweet tooth then this is the drink for you.

This is just a sample of the delicious foods Bangkok has to offer. Endless hours can be spent trying all the wonderful culinary delights the city has to offer. If you have any other food recommendations for Bangkok leave your suggestions in the comments 🙂
