10 Reasons to Quit Your Job and Travel the World

Quitting your job to travel the world is something many dream of. We spent hours working our 9-5 daydreaming of tropical beaches and jungle hikes. It can be a difficult and a daunting decision to make leaving a secure job to travel the world. It is a move in life that takes careful planning both logistically and financially. We spent a whole two years saving and planning and it is turning out to be the best thing we’ve ever done.

If you’re contemplating taking the leap then you should and here are our reasons why.

Adventure

“Life is what you make it”. For us the call of the unknown was too hard to resist. There is a big world out there full of adventures to go on. In the last ten months we have done some things that we have been talking about for years. Seeing The Great Wall of China, hiking a volcano for sunrise in Bali and skydiving in Australia.

Stuck in a rut

If you feel like you have hit a bit of a dip and you are just doing the same 9-5 then a change might be just what you need. Changing scenery and circumstances might be just what you need. Research where  you want to go and DO IT!. You won’t regret it.

Learn new skills

In life we are constantly learning. Travel can enrich you in so many ways. The freedom of travel allows you to learn new things everyday. Want to learn a new language ? No problem you can do that just go immerse yourself in it. Want to learn all about coffee and how it’s produced? No worries just go work on a coffee farm for a few months.

Immersing yourself in different cultures and traditions can be a great way to learn and explore if you just take the leap.

Push yourself

A big hurdle for people wanting to travel full time is the uncertainty that comes with change. We are creatures of habit who like to feel safe and secure in our lives. This is absolutely something you can have while full time travelling. Even in the current climate (Covid-19) we feel as at home in Thailand right now as we did in Ireland before we left. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and you will not regret it.

Meet new people

What has to be our favourite part of travelling is the people that we meet. If you are planning to travel alone or in a group, the people you meet on the road will have a profound impact on your journey.

On our first few days in Japan we met a couple who had made our time in the country amazing. They showed us their hometown and we got to experience a side of Japan that we would NEVER have seen. We hope to do the same for them in the future when they visit Ireland. This has been repeated time and again on our journeys and is one of the most rewarding parts of travel.

Gain a different outlook and grow as a person

When we are constantly in the same environment and routine we tend to develop tunnel vision on the world around us. We develop the same views and opinions as the people around us and accept it as the norm.

Travelling to countries and places completely different from your own can help remind you of how amazing the world is and how different people are in the best way.

Something that may be massively important to you might be a trivial thing to other people. Travelling has helped us gain a better understanding of people and the challenges they face in life. We cannot wait to continue to grow and individuals and a couple through our travels.

Learn what  you REALLY need to live

Before we left we had so much stuff to either store or get rid of. Having travelled for nearly a year now, most of the time with just a backpack full of belongings we have learned a lot about what we really need to survive.

Happiness cannot be measured in the things you own, it is how you feel everyday when you enjoy what you are doing.

Travel has made us appreciate the things we have and how lucky we are to be able to do this. Take stock of the things you think are important and decide if it is ACTUALLY something you need or is it just something you want. Clearing out clutter can be a breath of fresh air.

Experience amazing sights

For us the main reason to travel is  to experience some of the most wonderful sights and sounds the world has to offer.

People have a habit of putting things off, “Oh I’ll get to see that some day” or “when I retire I want to travel the world”. In this ever changing world we don’t know what tomorrow may bring, that beautiful building, view or ancient relic you always wanted to visit may not exist in 10 years. The time is NOW. The world and its wonders are waiting.

Eat amazing foods

Along with sleep, food is the main thing humans need to survive. It comes in all shapes, smells, sizes, and tastes. Get out there and try them all.

People are amazing and our ability to utilise what the world around us offers is a wonderful thing. There is no better example of this than with food. Why not travel the world one delicious meal at a time?

It’s fun

Life is about enjoyment. In our opinion travelling is the most fun and enriching thing we can do. Seeing new sights, hearing new sounds, tasting new foods and meeting new people on a daily basis. What’s not to like?

If this is something that has been on your mind for a while, or maybe it’s something you’ve just started thinking about just this second then all we can say is DO IT!

Make a plan, set a goal, start today, we promise you won’t regret it.
